Rey Mysterio defeated The Miz to win the WWE Championship on tonight's WWE Raw from the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. Below is a section of our live coverage detailing what went down: 

In his final act as WWE Chairman, before he was relieved of his duties, Mr McMahon put together an 8-man Tournament for the Vacant WWE Title. That Tournament concludes right now, Live from Hampton, Virginia on Monday Night RAW! Michael Cole and Jerry 'The King' Lawler turn our attention to the RAW locker room where the roster watches on to find out who will become the new WWE Champion, Live here tonight. Rey and Miz trade early wrestling holds and Miz tries to ground Mysterio early, but only ever gets a One and a half on any cover. Mysterio fights well, but after a failed hurracanranna, Miz counters and sends Rey jaw-first over the top turnbuckle. Miz takes control from here as he gets Two on the cover before stomping the body of Mysterio on the canvas. The fans chant '6-1-9' as Rey has to dig deep to try get back into the match, but Miz counters with a high knee to the gut and this again leads to a near fall. Miz chokes Mysterio over the middle rope, but Rey fights back only to get flung to ringside and then a baseball slide from Miz catches Rey right in the mush. Miz gets Mysterio back in the ring, having his head hang off the edge of the ring apron, but soon Rey turns the momentum to flip himself toward Miz and this leads to a headscissor take-down that sends Miz crashing into the steel steps at ringside. We go in and out of commercials and when we return The Miz is on top, but he and Rey battle back and forth with the fans on their feet in anticipation of a crowning of a new Champion. Miz does all he can to conquer Mysterio, dominating the match is Miz, but he cannot put Rey away. Rey comes back to put on a pinning predicament of his own, but Miz kicks out and comes bck with an attempted front slam, but Rey trips him onto the middle rope in anticipation of a 6-1-9. Miz though evades the move and comes back to get Rey into powerbomb position and then lift him to bounce Rey off the top rope and slam him to the canvas for a sit-down powerbomb! Miz gets One, Two - but only Two and he has to continue his assault. Miz ties Rey into a Tree of Woe, but Miz misses an attack to hit his bad knee, the knee he injured in the Money In The Bank Ladder match last Sunday at the PPV. Rey capitalizes and he trips Miz into the middle rope and Rey administer's a successful 6-1-9 and then a splash from off the top rope and *BAM* Rey connects! One! Two! Three!

After the match the fans are on their feet, but Miz spoils Rey's party, decking the new Champ from behind. Miz exits and music hits and out comes Alberto Del-Rio! Del-Rio's with a referee looking to cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase - but not, just as Del-Rio is about to cash in, Rey decks him at ringside and so Del-Rio says "no", he doesn't want to cash in just yet. Rey Mysterio celebrates to his adoring fans.
