- from Mike Informer: N.B. wrestler makes Hollywood debut in 300. Former WWE star Robert Maillet, 37, has been known as Kurgan, The Interrogator, and the Acadian Giant.
- from Patrick DeCola: On ESPN College Gamenight, during the UNC-BC ACC Semifinal highlights, the
commentators made a Mankind reference in regards to Taylor Hansbrough's facemask saying: "From Parts Unknown, off the top rope.." "...somewhere, Mick Foley would be proud."
- from Dan Ochoa: SmackDown in St. Louis was in delay last night due to the Saint Louis-George Washington game, so I watched most of it since the Billikens are the hometown team in college. I was amazed to find out that Jonathan Coachman was calling the game.... and he was quite good!
- Smackdown! commentator John 'Bradshaw' Layfield has been suffering from herniated discs since Spring of 2005 and top surgeons in the country told him that there's nothing they can do for him as surgery would make it worse
and the damage caused would be irreparable. This news forced JBL to go into retirement. Now, the former WWE champion is trying a non-surgical technique that has been developed with professional sports teams for the treatment of herniated discs. He began treatment yesterday and will continue every day for the next six weeks according to WWE.COM. "It's basically your modern day traction," said JBL. "The DRX9000 is the machine, and it's what all the pro
teams are using. It's what everyone is going to for lower back injuries instead of surgery. I'm very skeptical, obviously, but the doctor said it's not going to just make my back get better, it's actually going to heal it,"
added the Texan while talking to WWE.COM. "Hopefully before I go play golf in the middle of April at St Andrew's, I'll be healthy enough to walk 18 holes," JBL said.
- WWE, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service are co-sponsoring a sweepstake that will have a lucky US military member go to WrestleMania 23 along with a partner. The 'Four Star Furlough Sweepstakes' includes round-trip airfare for two to Detroit, four nights in a hotel, two tickets to WrestleMania 23 and $500 in spending money. Military members who are not deployed or will be on R&R during WrestleMania are eligible to participate. "If a deployed service member is scheduled for R&R (rest and recuperation) and will be back in the States on 4/1, they can log on and register at AAFES and WWE will fly them to Detroit from anywhere in the U.S., District of Columbia or Puerto Rico," said Chris Ward, a spokesman with AAFES in Dallas. Entry forms can be found at www.aafes.com and must be submitted by 11:59PM EST on 3/12. (thanks to Colin Vassallo)
