Royal Rumble Live Gate/Attendance, WWE Fan Fight?, More

Posted By: Wrestling-Radio.com on Jan 30, 2009

WWE's Royal Rumble PPV this past Sunday in Detroit, MI at the Joe Louis Arena was a legitimate sellout of 16,685 fans (14,000 paid) with a gate of $800,000.

Lehighvalleylive.com has an article noting that police were called to Starters Pub in Lower Saucon Township after a Moore Township man hurled a racial slur after being hit by an Allentown man while watching the Royal Rumble PPV on Sunday. One was charged with with simple assault, while the other was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.

THQ had hopes of breaking even in 2009, but the drop in sales for the WWE game and a SpongeBob game (down 19%) made that difficult. One source added, "The WWE decline is particularly concerning since that franchise had been one of THQ's last bastions of strength." (Wrestling Observer)

According to the The Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Dr. Phil Astin will now be facing 20-years in prison, and up to $1-Million in fines. Dr. Astin will be sentenced on May 12th. In a prepared statement, U.S. Attorney David Nahmias had the following to say: "This case demonstrates the irreparable damage that can be done when a doctor violates his oath to help others and instead chooses the path of illegal drug dealing. We will continue to work hard to ensure that [Astin] receives an appropriate sentence that assures he is never able to harm anyone again"
