Shawn Michaels could be heading for a major role in WWE’s main roster creative team, with the NXT boss reportedly lined up to succeed Bruce Prichard.

According to PWInsider, WWE plans to promote Michaels from within as Prichard prepares to step back from his Executive Director position in 2027. Prichard is expected to make the change after WrestleMania 43, moving into a consultancy role that would allow him to work from home.

The move would bring Michaels alongside his longtime friend Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who leads creative for WWE’s main roster.

“PWInsider.com can exclusively confirm that WWE is planning to promote from within and according to multiple sources, the plan is for the current head of WWE NXT and Senior Vice President of Talent Development and Creative, WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels to essentially step into Prichard’s current role,” the report said.

Michaels currently oversees NXT as Senior Vice President of Talent Development & Creative. He took over leadership of the brand after Levesque experienced heart issues in 2021 and has remained in charge since.

Who would take over Michaels’ responsibilities in NXT remains unclear. PWInsider did not identify a potential successor, although False Finish reports that some people within the Performance Center expect AJ Styles to become more involved with NXT once the change happens. That does not confirm Styles would replace Michaels.

For Michaels and Levesque, the reported move would mark another chapter in a partnership spanning decades. Both are WWE Hall of Famers as individual performers and as members of D-Generation X.

Prichard’s expected transition follows several health setbacks, including triceps and shoulder surgeries and time away from WWE this year because of back issues.

Conrad Thompson also shared earlier this month that Prichard is due to undergo neck surgery. The injury reportedly dates back to a 1990s storyline in which Prichard, appearing as Brother Love, was attacked by The Ultimate Warrior.
