Ricky Marvin is reportedly taking on a new role with AAA/WWE, bringing decades of international wrestling experience to its work behind the scenes.
According to False Finish, the 46-year-old Mexican veteran has signed as a producer and trainer, giving him the opportunity to pass on his knowledge to talent in WWE’s Mexican promotion.
Born in Veracruz, Marvin established himself in CMLL in the late 1990s. His achievements there included two reigns as CMLL Japan Super Lightweight Champion and one as Mexican National Lightweight Champion.
He also enjoyed championship success in AAA, winning the World Trios titles alongside Averno and Chessman.
Much of Marvin’s international reputation was built in Japan, where he spent more than a decade competing for Pro Wrestling Noah. His partnership with Kotaro Suzuki brought memorable rivalries against opponents including the Briscoe Brothers and Bobby Fish and Eddie Edwards.
During his Noah career, Marvin captured the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship once and the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship three times. Those tag title reigns came with Suzuki, Taiji Ishimori and Super Crazy.
American viewers may also remember him as Bengala, the masked wrestler he portrayed in Lucha Underground.
Marvin’s career includes an impressive 11-1 record in Luchas de Apuestas, matches where wrestlers put their masks or hair on the line. All 11 victories came in Mexico. His only defeat was against Tiger Emperor in Tokyo in 2005, when he lost his hair.
The reported appointment would give AAA/WWE a seasoned mentor whose experience spans Mexican lucha libre, Japanese wrestling and American television.
