Former WWF wrestler Jack Armstrong has died at the age of 79 following a lengthy period of ill health.
Known to fans as “Wild Man” Jack Armstrong, he began wrestling in 1963 and enjoyed a career spanning more than three decades. His time in the ring included appearances for the WWF, AWA and UWF, as well as matches in Japan.
His close friend, former bodybuilder Laura Creavalle, announced his death in an emotional Facebook tribute. She had travelled to Los Angeles to be with him during his final days.
Armstrong had undergone a leg amputation and was receiving dialysis. Despite his health struggles, Creavalle said he had kept his sense of humour.
Writing during her visit, she shared:
“I’m in LA after 19 yrs to be with my best friend Jack Armstrong, used to be a professional wrestler.
“His best friend was Rocky, the Rock’s father, they used to share rooms together when they were on the road. He has known the Rock since he was a baby.
“His health is failing so I have decided to come out here to help. They had to remove one of his legs as he is on dialysis, but his sense of humour still stays.
“He is 79. I’m hoping he makes it to 80. I’m glad just to be here by his side.”
In a later update, Creavalle confirmed his passing and remembered the support he had given her before she established herself in bodybuilding.
“As to my post a few days ago. I’m sorry to announce that I lost my best friend Wild Man Jack Armstrong today.
“He was a great wrestler and an even better friend.
“The stories are 2 many to share but he bought my first posing suit in LA and I lived with him for many years when I was a beginner struggling bodybuilder. Broke and homeless.”
Throughout his wrestling career, Armstrong performed under several names, including Lenny Solomon, Super Scorpion, Black Jack and Sailor Jack. He also pursued acting, appearing in a number of films during the 1980s.
Beyond his work in wrestling and film, Creavalle’s tribute offered a touching reminder of the friendship and generosity she experienced away from the spotlight.
Everyone at WNS extends their condolences to Armstrong’s family, friends and loved ones.
