WWE could be bringing the Sin Cara mask back to television, with a new wrestler reportedly being considered for the role.
According to PWInsider, early pitches have been made to revive the character, which debuted in WWE in 2011. Bryan Alvarez also confirmed the report. The idea remains at the pitching stage, with no confirmed return or performer named.
Místico first introduced Sin Cara to WWE audiences, before Hunico stepped into the role during Místico’s 30-day suspension under the company’s Talent Wellness Program in 2011.
That switch eventually became part of an on-screen rivalry, with Místico competing as Sin Cara Azul and Hunico appearing as Sin Cara Negro. Their feud led to a Mask vs. Mask match at the October 16, 2011 SmackDown taping in Mexico City, where Místico won and unmasked Hunico.
Hunico took over the Sin Cara identity again in late 2013, ahead of Místico’s WWE release in 2014. He later teamed with Kalisto as the Lucha Dragons, giving the character a new chapter in WWE’s tag team division.
Hunico continued under the mask until WWE granted his release in December 2019. The latest report suggests WWE is exploring another fresh start for the character, although it remains to be seen whether the pitch will move forward.
