Jim Ross Home And Recovering Following Hospital Stay

Jim Ross Home And Recovering Following Hospital Stay

Jim Ross is back home and recovering following his recent hospital stay, although he needs more time before returning to his Grilling JR podcast.

Co-host Conrad Thompson shared the update on this week’s episode, explaining that the 74-year-old wrestling legend is still feeling unwell after a chest infection caused his oxygen levels to drop. Ross announced his hospitalisation on October 12 and has since been discharged.

“I finally got an update on the ‘Voice of Wrestling,’ Mr. Jim Ross. As you all know, JR had to do a little outpatient visit recently. And it turns out that he got a bit of a chest cold, he’s got some sort of infection in his chest,” Thompson said. “They said that his oxygen was low, so he spent the night in the hospital, but I’m happy to report that he is home and on the mend.

“They still haven’t gotten his shunt hooked back up yet, so we’re hoping for that sooner rather than later. But at the same time, we’re hoping he gets to feeling better. He’s just under the weather right now. As our pal Jim would say, ‘Hey man, if it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.’ But we’re hoping, knock on wood, that Good Ol’ JR will be back here next week.”

Ross has faced several health setbacks in recent months, including two brain operations. During his first procedure in August, a shunt was inserted to help address balance problems that had contributed to frequent falls.

Although the shunt helped his balance, Ross later developed severe headaches. A CT scan revealed bleeding, prompting a second operation. He is now hoping to have the shunt functioning again.

Despite those challenges, Ross remains grateful for his career and hopes to return to AEW commentary when his health allows. He has also spoken about how regular medical appointments have reminded him that others are facing difficult battles of their own.

“God bless pro wrestling. It means so much to us in our lifetime,” Ross said on a recent Grilling JR episode. “And for me, the last 51 years, I’ve been immersed and I don’t feel burned out. I feel very blessed, very lucky that I’m still able to put sentences together from time to time.”

With Ross taking another week to recover, Grilling JR has re-released an episode looking back at the Lethal Lottery from WCW Starrcade 1991.
