Rey Mysterio’s legendary career could be approaching its final chapter, with a new report suggesting a possible WWE retirement in 2027.
According to WrestleVotes, there has been “backstage chatter” within WWE about Mysterio potentially stepping away from the ring next year. The company has reportedly “started to discuss ideas on how to present his in-ring farewell.”
No retirement date has been confirmed, and Mysterio’s recent comments suggest he is still enjoying competing.
The 51-year-old WWE Hall of Famer remains part of the Raw roster while also serving as the on-screen manager of Lucha Libre AAA. He entered the Hall of Fame in 2023 while continuing his active wrestling career.
As recently as last month, Mysterio said he intended to “wing it” when deciding when to retire, leaving his future open rather than committing to a farewell date.
His lengthy career has already given fans memorable family moments, including teaming with his son Dominik and later facing him as an opponent.
Another family milestone could potentially be ahead. His daughter Aalyah was introduced as a WWE Performance Center recruit last month. While no match has been announced, the possibility of father and daughter sharing the ring adds another intriguing chapter to his story.
Mysterio was in action on Monday’s Raw, facing Chad Gable and Dragon Lee in a triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship. Gable successfully retained his title.
After their singles match in August, Gable praised Mysterio’s character as well as his wrestling ability, describing him as a “genuinely humble, gracious, and grounded” person.
For now, a 2027 farewell remains a reported possibility. Mysterio himself has yet to announce when he will hang up his mask.
