Mercedes Moné says her nose remains broken despite undergoing surgery, but she is determined to keep defending the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Speaking at the WrestleDream post-show press conference on Saturday, Moné discussed her recovery after retaining the title against Thekla.
The injury happened early in her match against Willow Nightingale at AEW All In on August 30, where she won the championship. Around six weeks after surgery, Moné admitted she is still dealing with the effects.
“I’m one month and a half post-surgery on my nose. It’s still very much broken. And I’m pushing through every single week, but I love what I do. I love defending my women’s championship.
“I’m here to be the best. So just having a broken nose, it’s not going to faze me. It’s not going to stop me. It’s not going to stop me from defending this.
“This is my destiny. So I’m ready to give everything that I have for it.”
Moné returned to the ring on September 30 during the Tribute to PAC edition of AEW Dynamite. She then defended her championship against Queen Aminata on October 6.
On October 14, she joined Divine Dominion in a losing effort against the Triangle of Madness before successfully defending her title against Thekla at WrestleDream.
