Americans in the Middle East have been urged to remain vigilant following Houthi attacks on Saudi airports, with WWE Crown Jewel scheduled to take place in Riyadh in less than three weeks.
The U.S. State Department issued the warning on Monday, October 19, highlighting the risk of further disruption across the region. Crown Jewel is scheduled for November 7 at Riyadh Season Stadium.
In a statement shared through its TravelGov account on X, the department said:
“Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance due to the complex security environment. Be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions,”
The statement also warned that the situation could escalate.
“Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions. The hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area.”
Americans travelling to or from the region were advised to monitor airport and airline operations and “develop contingency plans in advance.”
The department further warned that “Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.”
According to WrestlingNews.co, Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport reopened on Sunday after closing following Houthi attacks. However, many international airlines had yet to resume flights to the airport.
The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh had previously advised Americans to avoid the airport following attacks on October 10.
At the time of the report, WWE had not announced any changes to Crown Jewel.
