Street Fighter has claimed the top spot at the North American box office, with WWE stars Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns among the cast bringing the video game franchise to the big screen.
Rhodes plays Guile, Reigns takes on the role of Akuma, and NJPW star Hirooki Goto appears as E. Honda.
According to Deadline, the film earned an estimated $51.1 million worldwide during its opening weekend. That total includes $31 million from the United States and Canada, alongside $20.1 million from international markets.
Despite finishing first in North America, the film fell short of Deadline’s earlier projection of approximately $70 million worldwide.
Audience reactions have been more positive than those from critics. At the time of the report, Street Fighter held a 79% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, compared with 41% from critics. Its IMDb rating stood at 6.3 out of 10.
Rhodes has emerged as a bright spot in several reviews, with his portrayal of Guile drawing particular praise for its humour.
The Hollywood News described him as “a scene-stealing stunner” and highlighted his comedic ability. Entertainment journalist Joseph Deckelmeier also praised the WWE star on social media, writing that “Cody Rhodes steals every scene he’s in.”
