Penta has claimed the men’s Money in the Bank briefcase, earning a golden opportunity to become a WWE world champion.
The luchador defeated Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans, Kevin Owens, CM Punk and Trick Williams in Saturday’s ladder match at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. He now holds a contract allowing him to challenge for the WWE Championship or World Heavyweight Championship at any time over the next year.
The decisive moment came when Penta hit Breakker with a Mexican Destroyer from one ladder onto another below. With Breakker down, Penta secured the briefcase and one of the biggest victories of his WWE career.
Breakker had caused chaos throughout the match, delivering a succession of spears and leaving Evans needing medical attention. Evans was taken away in an ambulance, but his involvement was far from over.
The Young OG drove the ambulance back into the arena to go after Breakker. His return eventually led to a shocking crash, as Breakker tipped his ladder out of the ring and sent him through the ambulance roof.
Elsewhere, Owens delivered a Stunner to Lil Yachty after the rapper tried to help Williams. Owens also spent much of the contest battling Punk, with their hostility evident from the opening stages.
All six competitors had earned their places through Triple Threat qualifying matches. Breakker defeated Rey Mysterio and Ethan Page, while Evans overcame Big Cass and Austin Theory. Williams beat Randy Orton and Rey Fenix, and Penta advanced past Dominik Mysterio and Dragon Lee.
Punk secured his spot against Gunther and Finn Balor, with Owens completing the field by defeating Cody Rhodes and Johnny Gargano.
For Penta, the victory builds on his recent World Heavyweight Championship challenge against Roman Reigns on Raw in Mexico City. Although he left that match without the title, he pushed Reigns to the limit and showed he could compete at the top of the card.
Now, Penta can choose the moment for his next championship opportunity. A successful cash-in would turn this breakthrough victory into an even bigger career milestone.
