Seth Rollins could be back on WWE television soon, with a new report suggesting the company is waiting for the right moment to make his return count.
Rollins has been absent from WWE programming since SummerSlam. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he has been given time to recover from what was described as a minor injury. However, he could return now or in the near future if needed.
Meltzer reported:
“Rollins has what was called a minor injury so they are giving him time to heal up, but he could be back if needed now or soon and the idea is to bring him back for maximum impact when it is right at this point.”
His last televised match saw him lose to World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns at SummerSlam in early August. Despite his absence from television, Rollins did compete on WWE’s South American house show tour in September.
He is also advertised for a dark match at tonight’s SmackDown in Lafayette, Louisiana. The planned bout would see him team with LA Knight and Solo Sikoa against 946 members Royce Keys, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price. Whether that match takes place remains to be seen, and the advertised appearance does not confirm a television return.
Knight will challenge Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday’s Money in the Bank event in New Orleans.
Meanwhile, Rollins appears to have plenty ahead of him both in WWE and in sports broadcasting. Sports Business Journal reported last week that he has three years remaining on his current WWE contract.
He also holds a separate ESPN agreement covering a set number of appearances across its programming. Rollins has already worked with ESPN, NFL Network and Netflix as he explores opportunities in sports media.
