Jim Ross is recovering after undergoing his second brain surgery on Wednesday morning, with Conrad Thompson sharing encouraging news from the wrestling legend’s family.
The Grilling JR co-host posted an update on X after hearing from Ross’ daughter, confirming that the procedure had gone well.
“I just heard GREAT NEWS from @JRsBBQ’s daughter: Procedure went well. He is in recovery right now. Will hopefully be heading home around 3.”
Ross had announced on Monday night that he needed further surgery “to address an issue with my shunt.”
Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of Grilling JR, the 74-year-old explained that his surgeon had switched the shunt off after a CT scan revealed bleeding. Ross said the bleeding was responsible for his headaches, although turning the device off had also affected the improvements to his balance and walking.
“I kind of had mixed emotions about that, because with the shunt on, my balance and me walking and things of that nature are enormously improved, and with the shunt off, I’ve got to be a little bit more careful,” Ross said.
His surgeon had arranged for him to see a new specialist in Oklahoma City this week, while his oncologist had also reviewed the scan. Despite the setbacks, Ross remained hopeful.
“I’m still on the road to recovery, and I’m very optimistic that the results are going to be good,” he said.
Ross originally had the shunt fitted on August 12 to drain excess fluid from his brain. Following that procedure, two doctors advised him against flying to London for AEW All In.
In September, he revealed that he had lost more than 50 pounds and was receiving visits from nurses at home twice a week. Last week, he also shared that doctors were testing a spot on his kidney and described “blistering headaches” that were waking him during the night.
The latest update offers some welcome reassurance as Ross continues his recovery, with his family hopeful that he would be able to return home later on Wednesday.
