Necro Butcher says he has signed a WWE Legends deal, marking an unexpected milestone for a wrestler who has never worked for the company.
The deathmatch veteran, whose real name is Dylan Summers, shared the news on Facebook on Tuesday. He said the offer arrived just one day after he walked out of his job, with discussions about possible projects already taking place.
“I have signed a basic legends deal with the WWE. The offer actually came in the day after I walked out of my job. The timing was ridiculous. Now, the door is open for various projects, which have already been discussed. But I’m taking things slow. What does this say about my career? A man who never worked there. But he worked hard everywhere he went. And still will. I will NOT miss my scheduled shows and most definitely will NOT be making any apology videos or speeches. I’ve worked hard, both for myself and for my fans. Nothing was more important to me than credibility and believability. I hope this leads to more opportunities for guys who never got that call to the big time. This is OUR reward. Let’s enjoy this together.”
Summers did not identify the job he had left or reveal which projects had been discussed. He did, however, make clear that he intends to honour his scheduled wrestling appearances.
According to PWInsider, WWE President Nick Khan is believed to have been instrumental in arranging the agreement. Khan previously helped secure a deal with the estate of New Jack, another major name in hardcore wrestling who never competed for WWE.
Speaking to a Senate committee in April, Khan said WWE has more than 100 Legends deals. These agreements pay retired wrestlers for the use of their likenesses in products such as video games, trading cards, merchandise and action figures.
New Jack, who died in 2021, joined WWE 2K25 as downloadable content in July 2025, with Khan reportedly pushing for his inclusion. Mattel also included a New Jack figure in its 2026 Defining Moments range as a Ringside Collectibles exclusive.
Summers shares a connection with New Jack, having faced him in his retirement match at Pro Wrestling Syndicate’s Super Card in April 2013.
The 53-year-old from Pine Grove, West Virginia, built his reputation on the deathmatch circuit. He won IWA Mid-South’s King of the Deathmatch tournament in 2002 and CZW’s Tournament of Death IV in 2005, becoming the first wrestler to win both events.
He also competed for Ring of Honor between 2006 and 2010, joining The Age of the Fall alongside Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black, who later became WWE star Seth Rollins. Outside the ring, Summers appeared in the 2008 film The Wrestler.
Although he retired in 2016, Summers has returned to action several times. His most recent match took place against Dean Mercer in a hardcore bout on September 27.
For Summers, the agreement represents recognition for a career built beyond WWE and, he hopes, an opportunity for others to receive similar recognition.
