Swerve Strickland and The New Level will have to win twice to leave AEW WrestleDream with their World Trios Championships.
The champions will defend against Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King in a two-out-of-three falls match on October 17, setting up another chapter in their heated rivalry.
The challenge followed Bandido’s successful ROH World Championship defence against Kofi at Grand Slam France. Swerve became involved towards the end of the contest, with Page and King also appearing as tensions between the two sides spilled over.
After the match, Swerve and The New Level challenged their rivals to another trios title showdown. Kofi and Austin Creed then suggested the two-out-of-three falls stipulation, meaning one winning fall will not be enough to settle the rematch.
Page, Bandido and King have already tried to take the championships from the trio. The champions successfully defended against them at All Out, leaving the challengers with another opportunity to turn the tables at WrestleDream.
Swerve and The New Level’s reign began at All In London, where Kofi and Creed made their AEW debuts as his mystery partners in the Trios Roulette Royal. The trio left that event with the gold and now face another major test.
The title match adds to a WrestleDream card that includes Jon Moxley defending the AEW Continental Championship against Mark Davis. The AEW World Championship will also be contested in Clockwork Carnage, with Samoa Joe having secured his place.
