Roman Reigns has shared a candid update on living with chronic myelogenous leukaemia (CML), explaining why he continues to take extra care with his health.
Speaking to Men’s Health in an interview published on September 30, the WWE star was asked about using peptides to help with recovery. Reigns explained that his medical history means he has to carefully consider anything he puts into his body.
“Well, with my medical history, I have to be very careful. I’m still to this day down to the wire fighting CML.
“So I have to be very, very careful when it comes to different things like that. Anything invasive, any type of anything like that, I just can’t take a chance on it. So I’ve heard all kinds of cool stuff about that, but I haven’t been able to break into that or sample.
“Maybe one day it’ll be a question for my doctor, but I’ve been able to just outwork everything at this point. So if I can keep doing that, then I’ll stay that route for now.”
Reigns said his condition remains under control, although minute traces mean he still needs to be cautious. Discussing his current status, he explained:
“We’re under control and we’re under the actual baseline, but to be in molecular remission, it has to be almost zeroed out and there’s just still those minute traces. But they count. So I still just have to be very careful and very smart, you know what I mean?
“So yeah, I would say for me, and this is someone who doesn’t have enough knowledge on it, peptides overrated.”
Reigns was first diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 22. On October 22, 2018, he publicly revealed that it had returned after 11 years and relinquished the WWE Universal Championship to focus on treatment.
He announced that he was in remission the following February. His latest comments offer a personal insight into the precautions that continue to shape his training and recovery.
