Kevin Nash believes a dream WWE storyline involving all four members of The Kliq was lost when he suffered a serious leg injury.

Speaking on Kliq This, Nash reflected on the brief period when he, Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Scott Hall were all part of WWE at the same time.

“That fu**ed me up, because we got Shawn,” Nash said. “We could have maybe done something and gotten Paul to get involved with us, to where that would have been like the Kliq angle. Like finally do the Kliq angle.”

Michaels had returned to the ring following several years away, Triple H was one of WWE’s biggest stars, and Nash and Hall were also back with the company. According to Nash, the timing created a rare opportunity to bring their famous backstage friendship to television.

However, those plans were brought to an end when Nash tore his quad.

“But I fu**ed that up when I blew my leg out, because Shawn was back,” he said. “Shawn was back in the mix. So, oh well.”

The injury occurred during Nash’s first match after returning from a torn bicep. He revealed that he had come back three weeks earlier than planned and had warned Vince McMahon about putting wrestlers in the ring before they were fully prepared.

“This is my first thing I’ve done coming back, and I’m coming back three weeks early,” Nash said. “And I remember looking at Vince and stuff and saying, doing this kind of s*** when people aren’t cleared and ain’t been in the ring is exactly how people get hurt.”

When co-host Sean Oliver suggested Nash had proved his point, the WWE Hall of Famer explained that this had not been his intention.

“It wasn’t to make a point. It was just one of those things,” he said. “Why, if you were that sure that it was that bad of an idea in your heart, why did you still do it?”

Nash also recalled how his wife could tell the difference between him simply being hurt during a match and suffering a genuine injury.

“People like, I just watched, I think Kevin’s hurt. He’s like, no, he’s just, he’s not hurt,” Nash said. “And my brother-in-law called my wife and she goes, I think your husband’s messed up. He says Kev messed himself up tonight. And she’s like, no. She put that phone down, but three minutes later that phone rang, and she knew.”

He then shared a story from that night which he said he had never previously revealed. Disco Inferno was asked to collect Nash’s wrestling gear from his home and place it on a same-day Delta flight. A courier then collected it and delivered it to the arena.

“Disco did great, except he didn’t pack one of the knee sleeves,” Nash said.

Nash was also asked about how injured wrestlers were paid at the time. He explained that the usual arrangement provided six months of full pay, with payments then stopping until the wrestler returned.

“You were paid full 100 percent for six months, and then when you returned is when you got paid,” he said. “I went nine months and a week before I showed up on TV, and I got every check.”

Despite their legendary friendship behind the scenes, Nash, Hall, Michaels and Triple H never worked together as a complete on-screen group in WWE.

The Kliq’s most famous public moment remains the Madison Square Garden curtain call in 1996. Nash now believes WWE briefly had another opportunity to bring all four men together, but his devastating injury closed the window before the storyline could begin.
