Roman Reigns remains World Heavyweight Champion after overcoming a determined Penta in the main event of WWE Raw in Mexico City.
With the crowd firmly behind him, Penta pushed Reigns throughout the contest and came close to victory on several occasions. However, the challenger could not find the finish he needed to take the championship.
The closing sequence saw Penta land three superkicks before attempting an aerial attack. Reigns caught him in mid-air with a Superman Punch, then followed with a spear to secure the victory.
Raw ended with Reigns celebrating in the ring while Penta recovered near the entrance. Despite the defeat, Penta told the camera he knew he could beat the champion.
Penta earned the opportunity by winning a tournament on Raw, defeating his brother Rey Fenix in the final. The tournament followed a backstage conversation in which Rey Mysterio suggested the idea to Reigns.
While the World Heavyweight Championship stayed with Reigns, two other major titles changed hands over the weekend. Sami Zayn defeated CM Punk in Mexico City on Friday to capture his second WWE Championship. Stephanie Vaquer then beat Liv Morgan at Saturday’s live event in Santiago, Chile, to become Women’s World Champion for the second time.
