Rey Mysterio has praised The Undertaker’s influence on AAA, saying the WWE legend is helping the promotion build on its identity while bringing new depth to its storytelling.
Speaking to The Sun UK, Mysterio, who serves as AAA general manager, explained that Undertaker arrived with a clear aim to add to what the company had already established.
“I think Taker said it best. When he first came down to AAA, he said, ‘I don’t wanna change what you guys have already built here, I just wanna add.’
“So, it was perfect. Now the fans around Mexico who are not accustomed to maybe seeing long storylines or sequences of matches, or sequences of stories that lead into a particular or special match, that is now all happening.
“It’s like the perfect formula for the Mexican fan base. And for the rest of the world, it’s something that they’ve been watching for years in WWE.
“So, I think Undertaker is doing incredible there and I’m just enjoying every moment, you know, every time I step into AAA.”
Mysterio now faces a major challenge of his own as he prepares to headline the opening night of TripleMania 34 against Omos on Friday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The outcome will decide Omos’ future with the promotion. A victory for Mysterio means Omos will be permanently banned from AAA, while a win for Omos will secure his reinstatement.
Their confrontation follows the August 22 episode of AAA on Fox, when Omos continued attacking Galeno after their match. Mysterio announced his suspension, only for Omos to strike the general manager as well.
With their dispute heading into the ring, Mysterio has the opportunity to settle matters himself at one of AAA’s biggest events.
