Vic Joseph slipped a reference to The New Level into WWE NXT commentary on September 8, with Grayson Waller sitting beside him.

The NXT Champion joined Joseph and Booker T for the main event, which saw Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook and Saquon Shugars face Cruz Montana, EK Prosper and Keanu Carver. Waller was watching closely as the picture surrounding his next potential challenger began to take shape.

During the action, Joseph asked Waller about his first singles championship reign, choosing words that appeared to nod to both The New Day and Kofi and Austin Creed’s new AEW identity.

“It’s a new day for you in some retrospects. First singles title. How are you now going to, well, take your game to a new level?”

The phrasing carried extra significance because of Waller’s previous connection with the pair, who now compete in AEW as The New Level.

Kofi and Creed departed WWE a few months ago before making their AEW debut at All In: London on August 30. They were revealed as Swerve Strickland’s mystery partners and enjoyed immediate success, winning the AEW World Trios Championship in their first match for the company.

Waller’s association with the former New Day members began after an injury sidelined Austin Theory, leaving him without his usual tag team partner.

During a July 2025 episode of Raw, Waller approached Kofi and Creed about becoming a possible replacement for Big E. His pitch even included giving himself the nickname “Big G”.

Speaking later on Busted Open, Waller credited Kofi and Creed with supporting him through a difficult stretch of his WWE career. However, he also acknowledged that the comedy involved in their partnership made it more difficult to showcase his serious side.

With that shared history, Joseph’s comment gave viewers an intriguing reference to catch during NXT’s closing match.
