Enjoy Wrestling has shared further details about the medical emergency that preceded the death of Andy Williams, known to wrestling fans as The Butcher, at the age of 48.

Williams collapsed at ringside after competing at the promotion’s fifth anniversary event in Pennsylvania on September 5. In a statement provided to Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA, Enjoy Wrestling co-owner Kurt Hackimer outlined the efforts made to save him.

Hackimer said two doctors attended to Williams before emergency services arrived. Williams was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, and his tag team partner Jesse Guilmette, known as The Blade, informed the promotion of his death shortly after midnight.

While medics reportedly described his symptoms as consistent with a “cardiac event,” an official cause of death remains pending an autopsy.

Hackimer’s full statement reads:

“Andy collapsed at ringside after his match on Saturday and hit his head on the floor. We carried him to the side where he was attended to by the two doctors we have on staff.”

“I called for an ambulance. At this time, he was conscious but unresponsive. His condition worsened quickly and his pulse faded. Called 911 again to provide an update and were informed that the police were about to arrive.”

“We ended the event and asked the audience to leave. Doctors administered CPR and utilized an AED provided by the police until the ambulance arrived.”

“He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital at around 9:45PM and we were informed of his passing by his tag team partner, Jesse [Guilmette], shortly after midnight.”

“Medics on site indicated that the symptoms were consistent with a cardiac event, but we were told that the cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.”

The Butcher and The Blade had hosted a seminar for Enjoy Wrestling on Friday before facing TME, Duke Davis and Ganon Jones Jr., on Saturday.

The anniversary event was the promotion’s penultimate show. Enjoy Wrestling had already announced in late August that it would close following its October 4 event.

Williams and Guilmette shared a friendship that extended beyond their time teaming in AEW. Guilmette also trained Williams, helping him move into professional wrestling after his success as a musician with Every Time I Die.

Allie, also known as Laura Dennis, shared her heartbreak in an Instagram tribute. She is married to Guilmette and previously managed the pair in AEW as The Bunny.

“I keep trying to string the perfect words together but I just can’t find them,” she wrote. “I hate to say goodbye. BBB forever”
