Tessa Blanchard says dealing with the internet wrestling community has been one of the toughest challenges of her career.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, the former TNA wrestler, who has now joined MLW, reflected on the personal struggles she has faced and the impact of online criticism following her past controversies.
“You know, I’ve overcome relationship problems. I’ve overcome family problems. I’ve overcome feeling that I’m not good enough.”
Blanchard explained that reading judgements from people who do not know her personally has been particularly difficult.
“Me personally, you know, it’s no secret I went through some difficult things in wrestling, and when you, I think one of the most difficult things is going online and reading comments or opinions that all these people that don’t know you personally have about you.”
She said repeatedly consuming negative comments can affect how someone sees themselves, making it important to maintain a clear sense of identity away from wrestling.
“And then if you’re continually, continuously consuming that type of media or that type of information, I guess, like, at one point you might start to believe it about yourself. So I think one of the most difficult things that I’ve had to overcome, and I think many wrestlers have to overcome, is having a strong sense of who you are, like Tessa Blanchard the person and Tessa Blanchard the wrestler.”
Blanchard also highlighted the importance of balancing work and personal life, describing the challenge of dealing with the online wrestling community as something other performers face too.
