Rusev’s recent WWE absence reportedly stems from a worrying medical issue rather than backstage frustration.
The former United States Champion has not appeared on WWE television since late July, when he faced Je’Von Evans. Online speculation claimed Rusev was unhappy and had “stormed off” after the match, but new details suggest there was a far more serious reason for his sudden exit.
According to Fightful Select, Rusev landed awkwardly on his neck during the contest and began experiencing numbness in his hands.
The referee reportedly asked whether the match needed to be stopped, but Rusev wanted to continue. His symptoms are believed to have worsened as the match went on, leading him to leave the ringside area quickly once it was over.
WWE reportedly placed Rusev in concussion protocol as a precaution. He was then given a couple of weeks away before returning to the WWE Performance Center.
However, his comeback was delayed again after he suffered an undisclosed illness. As of last week, Rusev was reportedly still waiting to receive medical clearance from WWE.
Rusev is currently expected to return to television sometime in September, although WWE has not confirmed an exact date.
