Stephanie McMahon Opens Up About Finding Her Identity After Leaving WWE Role

Stephanie McMahon has opened up about questioning her self-worth after stepping away from her WWE executive role, and how spending more time with her family helped her find perspective.

Speaking with Charlotte Flair on her “What’s Your Story?” podcast, Stephanie reflected on the adjustment from being a working executive to building a life less centred on her career.

“I struggled a lot with coming home because, I mean, I’m still doing a lot of stuff, obviously. But I was an executive, a working executive. And now it’s like, am I less of someone now because I’m not? And do I have to still prove it, to who? To myself? No, I don’t,” Stephanie said.

Stephanie initially took a leave of absence in 2022 to focus on her family. She returned following Vince McMahon’s retirement and served as co-CEO alongside Nick Khan, before resigning in January 2023 after her father returned to the company.

Leaving that position brought difficult questions about her identity, but it also gave Stephanie more room to appreciate what matters most to her.

“And it’s okay for me to enjoy my life and still, of course, work hard and give back. And I get to pour my love into my family and be there. And that’s what matters the most to me, is what I’ve realized. And of course, I love the business, always will. I pour my love into the business no matter what, and all the people in it.”

Stephanie remains connected to WWE through her podcast and was inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame earlier this year. Both her husband, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and WWE President Nick Khan have welcomed the possibility of her returning if she wishes.

Stephanie and Levesque have been married for more than two decades and have three daughters. Their daughter Vaughn shared in the family’s WWE connection last month, singing “God Bless America” at SummerSlam.

For Stephanie, this chapter has offered a chance to keep her love for wrestling while making more time for her family and herself.
