Ric Flair has defended his reaction to Will Ospreay versus Kenny Omega, insisting he enjoyed the match while distancing himself from Eric Bischoff’s criticism.

Ospreay defeated Omega at AEW All In: London 2026 to become AEW Men’s World Champion. Flair later sparked debate by saying comparisons with his classic matches against Ricky Steamboat were like “comparing the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean”.

Following criticism of both his and Bischoff’s comments, Flair returned to X to clarify his position.

“Please don’t put me in the same category as Eric Bischoff!

“I thoroughly enjoyed the match. I know both Kenny and Will and have sung their praises to them personally. I have nothing but respect for them.

“When I tweeted this yesterday, it’s just an opinion, like every other sport. It’s like watching Get Up or First Take on ESPN. It doesn’t mean it’s right, and it doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It’s just an opinion.

“Eric should just focus on his new amateur wrestling project. The same applies to Jim Ross and his comments. If you mention my name, of course I am going to respond.”

Flair’s response makes his stance clear: he respects Ospreay and Omega, but remains ready to defend his own legacy when comparisons arise.
