Will Ospreay’s first AEW World Championship defense is officially set. At the end of the September 2 episode of AEW Dynamite, an announcement was made that Ospreay will defend the AEW World title against Jon Moxley at All Out in Chicago on September 26.
Ospreay and Moxley have faced each other twice in singles competition, and the latter holds a 2-0 advantage. Their first meeting took place at NJPW Windy City Riot in 2022. They met again at AEW Dynasty in April, with the Continental Championship on the line.
Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley collide for the AEW World Title at All Out
The title match announcement came after Ospreay competed in a chaotic 10-man tag team main event alongside Andrade El Idolo and other members of United Empire against The Demand (Bishop Kaun, Ricochet, & Toa Liona) & the Dogs (Clark Connors & Gabe Kidd).
After Ospreay’s team won, things became chaotic when Gabe Kidd attacked him and tried to hit the new champion with a chair.
That was when the Death Riders stepped in.
Moxley got between Kidd and Ospreay and stopped him from hitting the champion. Andrade eventually took Kidd out of the situation, sending the two brawling backstage.
Jon Moxley then picked up Ospreay’s AEW World Championship and placed it on his shoulder while staring down the champion. The moment between the former allies ended shortly after when the arena screen revealed their All Out title match. Moxley appeared shocked after looking at the screen.
Moxley is now chasing his fifth AEW World Championship reign. He last held the title before losing it to Hangman Page at All In: Texas in July 2025.
Meanwhile, Ospreay is fresh off defeating Kenny Omega at All In to become AEW World Champion. His first defense will now come against one of his allies.
Just as AEW World Champion @WillOspreay and @JonMoxley looked to be back on the same page, it was announced that they'll battle for the AEW World Title at #AEWAllOut, Saturday 9/26!
