Glenn Jacobs, better known to wrestling fans around the world as WWE Hall of Famer Kane, has officially reached the end of his eight-year run as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

Jacobs leaves office today, September 1, after serving two terms as mayor. First elected in 2018, he is unable to seek another consecutive term due to term limits.

Betsy Henderson, a fellow Republican, will succeed Jacobs after defeating Democrat Beau Hawk by five points in last month's general election.

For now, it remains unclear what comes next for the former WWE Champion.

Jacobs has previously spoken about the possibility of seeking higher office in Tennessee, including a potential run for governor. However, he chose not to enter the state's open gubernatorial race in 2026.

When recently asked about his political future, Jacobs said any decision would have to be right for both himself and his family.

“When asked about his political future, Jacobs said he would have to consider whether or not it would be the right decision for his family.”

“He added that running Knox County is a big job, and he would have to consider if he has the right skill set to run for statewide office and represent all 95 counties in Tennessee.”

Jacobs has also maintained a political relationship with fellow WWE Hall of Famer and US President Donald Trump. Earlier this year, Trump publicly suggested that he believes Jacobs could have a significant political future in Tennessee.

On his final day as mayor, Jacobs signed an ordinance banning Knox County government agencies from using automated licence plate-reading cameras such as Flock.

In his final weekly address, Jacobs thanked the people who gave him the opportunity to serve and expressed his hope that Knox County is in a better position today than it was when he first took office eight years ago.

While Jacobs' political future remains uncertain, his days stepping into the WWE ring as Kane appear to be behind him.

Now 59, Jacobs laughed off the suggestion of having one final retirement match when the subject was raised during an interview in 2025.

Jacobs did make occasional WWE appearances during his time as mayor.

One of his most notable came just months after taking office in 2018, when Kane reunited with The Undertaker to face Triple H and Shawn Michaels at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.

The event took place during a period of intense criticism surrounding WWE's relationship with Saudi Arabia following the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Jacobs' final match came when he entered the 2021 Men's Royal Rumble.

During his time as mayor, Jacobs donated the money he received from his WWE in-ring appearances to local charities in Tennessee.

After decades entertaining wrestling fans as the Big Red Machine and eight years serving Knox County, Jacobs now begins another new chapter.

Whether that chapter eventually takes Kane from the WWE Hall of Fame to another major political office remains to be seen.
