Jon Moxley has retained the AEW Continental Championship after defeating Nigel McGuinness in the Continental Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

The highly physical encounter saw McGuinness receive huge support from the Wembley crowd as he attempted to overcome Moxley and capture the championship on home soil.

The match began with a technical exchange as McGuinness and Moxley battled through wristlocks, hammerlocks and submissions. However, Moxley quickly changed the direction of the contest when he deliberately targeted McGuinness' already injured foot.

McGuinness responded by attacking Moxley's arm and eventually managed to apply the London Dungeon. Moxley escaped by biting Nigel's hand before the action continued to become increasingly physical.

Nigel later connected with the Tower of London, but it was not enough to keep the champion down.

Both men also found themselves caught in the LeBell Lock during the match, with Bryan Danielson watching closely from commentary and appearing impressed with McGuinness' application of the submission.

Moxley continued attacking Nigel's injured ankle, even removing his kickpad and unwrapping the protective tape around the injury.

Despite the damage, McGuinness continued fighting and received an increasingly loud reaction from the Wembley crowd. He connected with his trademark pendulum lariat before later catching Moxley in the London Dungeon.

For a moment, it appeared McGuinness might force the champion to submit, but Moxley managed to escape and transition into an ankle lock.

Nigel countered with a victory roll for a close two-count and continued battling, but Moxley eventually regained control.

After hitting Blackout, Moxley applied a seated ankle lock and placed enormous pressure on McGuinness' injured ankle.

Nigel desperately reached towards the ropes while Danielson encouraged him from commentary. McGuinness even bit his own hand in an effort to stop himself from tapping out, but he was unable to reach the ropes.

With nowhere left to go, McGuinness was eventually forced to submit.

The Death Riders entered the ring following the match to celebrate with Moxley, but Wembley still had plenty of appreciation left for McGuinness.

Nigel slowly pulled himself back to his feet as his initial frustration turned to acceptance and gratitude. The British wrestling veteran then stood tall as the Wembley crowd showed its appreciation for his performance.
