The John Cena Classic is reportedly beginning to take shape, with WWE now believed to have a possible December date in mind for the tournament.

The concept was first announced by 17-time World Champion John Cena during WWE Backlash earlier this year. While WWE has kept many of the details under wraps, the tournament is expected to bring together talent from both the main roster and NXT.

No participants have been officially announced yet, although previous reports have suggested WWE wants the tournament to spotlight some of its newer and younger wrestlers. There has also been talk that a championship could be connected to the John Cena Classic, although that has not been confirmed.

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is currently targeting December 12 for the tournament.

However, there could be an interesting scheduling issue if WWE sticks with that date.

Wrestlepalooza: Perth has already been announced for December 12 at RAC Arena in Australia. WWE is also scheduled to hold SmackDown at the venue on December 11 before returning for RAW on December 14.

That raises plenty of questions about how WWE intends to stage the John Cena Classic, particularly when it comes to the location and which wrestlers could be involved.

There is also no confirmation yet on where fans will be able to watch the tournament. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that it remains unclear whether the John Cena Classic will stream on Netflix or be distributed through another platform.

For now, December 12 should be considered a tentative date rather than a confirmed one.

The location, participants, tournament format and potential championship all remain unclear, meaning there are still plenty of details for WWE to reveal as John Cena's special tournament moves closer.
