TNA will crown a new X-Division Champion at Bound For Glory following Leon Slater’s decision to give up the title and pursue the TNA World Championship.
TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella confirmed that a series of qualifying matches will determine the six wrestlers who compete for the vacant championship at Bound For Glory.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is Santino Marella, Director of Authority,” Marella said. “Leon Slater has exercised Option C, which means he will challenge for the TNA World Title.
“In light of that, he has vacated the X-Division Championship, and we will be starting a series of qualifying matches in which the winner of each match will then be in a six-way match for the X-Division Title at Bound for Glory.”
The qualifying matches and participants have yet to be announced.
Leon Slater Chooses Option C
Slater officially exercised Option C at TNA Lockdown, giving up the X-Division Championship in exchange for a shot at the TNA World Championship.
Option C has been part of TNA history for years, allowing the reigning X-Division Champion to surrender the title for an opportunity at the company's top prize.
Slater recently regained the X-Division Championship from Cedric Alexander in a Last Man Standing match at Lockdown, but his latest reign has now come to an end.
Following The Hardys' loss to The Nemeths in a TNA World Tag Team Championship match, Slater appeared and officially relinquished his championship.
His attention is now firmly on Nic Nemeth and the TNA World Championship at Bound For Glory in October.
Meanwhile, the X-Division will move forward with six qualifying matches leading to a huge six-way showdown to crown Slater's successor.
