AEW commentator and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has shared some encouraging news regarding his health, although further tests are still needed.

Speaking on the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast, Ross revealed doctors discovered a small mass on his kidney. While cancer has not been completely ruled out, his oncologist does not currently believe he is dealing with a serious cancer diagnosis.

Ross said:

“On Wednesday afternoon, I had my oncology appointment because they saw a mass on my kidney. I got good news on that. The oncologist thinks I don’t have cancer, but they’re not sure. There’s a lump there. It may be cancerous, but it’s so small that they can operate on it and eliminate it.”

The 74-year-old admitted the uncertainty had caused him considerable worry, particularly following a recent eight-day hospital stay.

“The last thing I want to do is get cancer surgery and then go back to the freaking hospital for a few days. This last stay was eight days. I got good news on that, so I’m blessed there and thankful. That was a good deal.”

Ross added that he had struggled to sleep in the week leading up to his oncology appointment.

“Thank God I found out that I didn’t have serious cancer on my liver, or kidney, rather, excuse me. That was great news because I hardly slept the week before that appointment. I was overwhelmed with worry because you’re going to find out what the story is.”

However, Ross stressed that doctors still need to carry out further testing, including another MRI, before they can provide a definitive answer.

“They’ve got to do tests and they’ve got to do another MRI, so I can’t give you a direct answer because I don’t have one. I’ve accelerated all that stuff as best I’m able to move this thing along. My oncologist and I had a great meeting on Wednesday afternoon. I was very blessed.”

Ross also opened up about his disappointment at being unable to travel to London for AEW All In at Wembley Stadium.

Calling matches at Wembley had become a major goal during his recovery, but his doctors ultimately advised him not to make the journey.

“I really wanted to go to London this week. I really did, man. You’ve got to have goals and you’ve got to have destinations, and that was my next one.”

Ross explained that both his brain surgeon and another doctor warned that flying to the UK presented unnecessary risks.

“Both my brain surgeon and another doctor said, ‘You need to keep your ass off the airplane because if you fall or get hurt, they’ve got to make an emergency landing, or you fall in London and you’ve got to go to a London hospital. It’s not worth the risk.’”

While frustrated by the decision, Ross acknowledged that his health has to come first.

“I understand it. I’m disappointed, very disappointed, and I’ll be watching for sure. But that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m 74 years old, I think, but I am feeling better. I’ve just got to get back to myself, thinking about things, remembering things.”

Ross remains focused on his rehabilitation and returning to commentary when he is medically ready.

“With my daughter helping me out and Steven, the Missing Link, on the case, taking me to all my doctor’s appointments and so forth, I’ve got good care and good friends. I’m healing, just not as fast as I’d like, but I am healing. We’re moving right along, and I’m anxious to get this stuff behind me and get back to doing some work. I miss calling matches.”

Ross previously identified working Wembley Stadium at the end of August as one of his recovery goals. Although that will not happen this time, his latest update suggests he remains determined to get back behind the commentary desk.
