MVP believes one of the biggest missed opportunities in TNA history was the possibility of Spike TV buying the promotion.
Speaking on his podcast, the former TNA star was asked to name the biggest “what if” he witnessed during his time with the company. MVP pointed to what he described as serious mismanagement behind the scenes.
“I would say because back then, man, there was gross, gross mismanagement. People in positions that should not have been in those positions.”
MVP claimed Dixie Carter’s financial involvement in TNA also influenced how the company was operated and how she was presented on television.
“Dixie was funneling money into the company. So, you had to placate her and give her some sense of importance and allow her to contribute on screen because that’s what she wanted.”
He added that people around Carter regularly praised her in an effort to remain on her good side and keep money coming into the promotion.
MVP also took aim at former TNA executive John Gaburick, who was in charge during part of his run with the company.
“When I was there, I came in during the time when John Gaburick was in charge, and he had no clue. He lied about his qualifications to get that job.”
MVP recalled joking with Austin Aries about what Gaburick’s original interview with Carter might have been like.
However, when it came to TNA’s biggest missed opportunity, MVP pointed to Spike TV and the possibility of the network purchasing the promotion.
“For me, my experience, the biggest what-if I think would be, what if Spike was actually allowed to buy Impact?”
MVP stressed that he did not know the full details of the situation, but said he had heard claims that Spike was interested in acquiring the company without Carter being involved on screen.
“I don’t know the exact facts on this, but I was told the rumor was people have said that Spike was interested in buying Impact without Dixie or without Dixie having an on-screen role.”
It remains one of the more intriguing alternate-history questions surrounding TNA: how different could the company have looked if Spike TV had taken control?
