Lucha libre veteran Solar II, real name Pedro Buenrostro Gomez, has passed away at the age of 66.

Buenrostro had reportedly been experiencing health problems in the days leading up to his passing. His death was confirmed by his brother and fellow wrestler Solar I, who shared a message from the family announcing the sad news.

“With deep regret and immense pain, we communicate the death of Pedro Buenrostro, ‘Solar Segundo, dear brother, family member and friend,” says the family’s message, who also recalled the mark left by the fighter among those who had the opportunity to meet him throughout his life.”

Solar II's wrestling career stretched across several decades, beginning with his professional debut in 1975. He became particularly associated with CMLL, where he spent much of his time in the ring and established himself as a respected figure within Mexican wrestling.

One of the biggest accomplishments of his career came in 1988 when Solar II captured the NWA World Welterweight Championship.

His lengthy career eventually came to an end in 2002, a significant year that also saw him lose both his mask and his hair before stepping away from professional wrestling.

CMLL paid tribute to Solar II ahead of its August 23 event, holding a moment of silence in his memory.
