Paige has spoken out after experiencing an unusual encounter with an autograph reseller who apparently went to considerable lengths to track down the WWE star during her travels.
The former WWE Divas Champion revealed on social media that an airport scalper was waiting for her directly at the gate as she arrived for a connecting flight. According to Paige, the individual was carrying around 30 photographs in the hope of getting them signed.
Paige made it clear that while she is generally accommodating when it comes to autograph requests, she felt this particular situation crossed a line.
“Airport scalpers are morphing.. Had someone waiting for me as I was getting off the plane at the gate of my connecting flight with like 30 pictures.. I’m easy going with this stuff but pulling up to my gate is fucking weirdo behavior. Don’t do that.”
The circumstances raised questions among fans about how the individual managed to reach Paige's gate, as access beyond airport security would ordinarily require a valid boarding pass.
When asked whether she believed the scalper had actually purchased a flight ticket purely to gain access to the secure area, Paige confirmed that appeared to be exactly what happened.
“Yes, exactly. It was my connecting so I wasn’t coming to baggage claim. He probably thought he could make that money back and more thinking I was gonna sign all those pics at my landing gate. He probably thought it was gonna be worth it. It wasn’t.”
The incident is another example of the increasingly aggressive tactics wrestlers have encountered from autograph resellers. WWE talent have regularly discussed uncomfortable interactions at airports and hotels, particularly when individuals arrive carrying large quantities of merchandise that appears destined for resale rather than a personal collection.
While wrestlers often make time for genuine fans during their travels, several stars have previously urged people to respect boundaries when they are away from WWE events and official signing opportunities.
In Paige's case, purchasing a ticket and apparently positioning himself at the gate of her connecting flight was a step too far, and she made sure the individual knew his efforts had not paid off.
