Chelsea Green has opened up about finally sharing the WWE spotlight with her husband, Matt Cardona, saying she always felt their real-life relationship would eventually make its way onto television.

The couple were featured together on the August 14, 2026 episode of WWE SmackDown. During a segment involving Green and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, Gunther interrupted proceedings before Cardona made his way to the ring to stand up for his wife. The confrontation ultimately resulted in Cardona facing Gunther later that evening, with Gunther picking up the victory.

Speaking during a recent interview with ETalk, Green reflected on the opportunity to work alongside Cardona and described the entire experience as "just really fun."

Green explained that despite being together for a decade, their wrestling careers had repeatedly come close to overlapping without the two actually getting the chance to work together on television.

"Matt and I have been together for 10 years. We have had so many instances in our careers where we’ve almost crossed paths, where we’ve almost worked together. We’ve almost been on the same show. And it was an amazing moment to be able to have him brought back to WWE, have us be able to work together on screen on SmackDown, but then also have backstage footage from Unreal. That was really cool as well.

"I mean, I think that right now in wrestling, we love to blur the lines and we bring in current events. We bring in real-life situations. So, for Matt and I to end up on screen together was, in my opinion, inevitable.

"You cannot avoid the fact that we are together. We are both in WWE. We are very public people with our personal lives. Everyone has watched us build our house and adopt our animals and kind of grow this life together. So I think it was really beautiful for the fans to be able to see that on screen on SmackDown. He came to my aid and it was just really fun.

"I got to watch in the ring as a fan as well. You know, everybody was watching him come save me, but I also got to watch that, which was really fun."

Green returned to SmackDown on August 21, this time becoming involved in the situation surrounding Tiffany Stratton, Lash Legend and Nia Jax. After Legend defeated Stratton in singles competition, Legend and Jax launched a two-on-one attack before Green came out to help Stratton.

Cardona was also part of WWE's activities that evening, although he did not compete on the SmackDown broadcast itself. He faced Kit Wilson during the Main Event tapings held before SmackDown went on the air.

After years of their careers almost intersecting, Green believes WWE acknowledging her marriage to Cardona on television was a natural development, particularly at a time when professional wrestling increasingly incorporates elements of performers' real lives into its storylines.
