WWE: What Should Happen In 2012

Posted by: Blake Blaze on Jan 09 2012

It’s been three long days since I left you guys mulling over my thoughts on the controversial superstar John Cena. And as much as I love to write columns dedicated to individual superstars, I want to move away from it this time. Instead, I’ve prepared a list of different things I think need to happen this year in the WWE. Please feel free to disagree as I always love reading a good ol’ “F#%& your opinions!” Comment!

Cena’s Heel Turn: The time has never been more appropriate for a John Cena heel turn. We’re on the brink of witnessing one of the biggest matches in WWE History at Wrestlemania 28 between the ever so controversial John Cena and the People’s Champion Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. With the venue being in Miami and the crowd turning against Cena more and more each week, how could the stars align more? Let’s face it WWE, the Crowd is not going to support John Cena in this match. Sure, he’ll have those kids in the audience that will be wearing their Cenation gear proudly. But the overwhelming reaction to Cena’s very presence is going to be like Josh Beckett (Boston Red Sox Pitcher) taking a dump on the pitcher’s mound at Yankee Stadium. Why not turn that negativity into a good thing? Have Cena make his turn at one of the next two PPV’s and make this match that much better.

Cena beats the Rock at WM28: Uh-oh, here I go pissing readers off again. You’re going to have those people who will claim “Cena doesn’t need to go over on the Rock!” which does hold some merit. However, it’s not about who “needs” to go over on who. It’s about what is going to be best for each superstar and the future of the WWE. Sure it would be a feel good moment for “Team Bring It”, The Rock and the many fans that will be occupying the stadium in Miami on that day. But it does absolutely nothing for the biggest star in your business aside from making him look a little weak. Now I’m not insisting that The Rock shouldn’t still be considered a threat. But if you’re the WWE, you’ve built Cena up entirely too much for him to lose to a guy who has been in one match over the last seven years.  Cena beating The Rock in Miami at Wrestlemania would be huge for the rivalry and it would add quite a bit of heat for Cena. Rumor has it the WWE is looking for a best of three series between the two. In my opinion, it should go down like this: WM28- Cena, Summerslam- Rock and then finish it off with Cena beating The Rock at Survivor Series.

Emergence of New Champions:  The time has come for the WWE’s youth movement to swing into full effect. There will be WWE fans (or so they call themselves), that will try and tell you that the WWE is short on talent these days. When you meet these people, punch them in the face. I’m kidding; WNS wouldn’t support me telling you guys to do that. Maybe flick them or something? Anyways, the WWE has got themselves quite the crop of young Superstars that could and should be considered Main Event threats by the end of the year. If Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus (Yes, I’m aware he’s been a WWE Champion), Wade Barrett and Drew McIntyre (Yes, I said it) haven’t held a Major Championship by this year’s end. It would be a major disappointment.  All four of those guys have the charisma and in-ring talent that are necessary to be the stars on a show. The WWE needs to have some faith and push these guys to the moon this year. Gone are the days of constant Triple H, Batista, Edge and Cena Championship reigns. A new wave of talent is upon us, utilize it.

New Faces: The WWE is in desperate need of some new Faces. If the WWE does pull the trigger on a Cena heel turn, this will become even more necessary. What guys come to mind? How about The Miz, Christian and Drew McIntyre? The Miz has never really been given an opportunity to have a face run. I blame that partially on us fans as we weren’t exactly congratulatory to the guy on his success. But I think he’s been around long enough that people shouldn’t still be holding the reality TV mess over his head. And if you still do, you may want to look into growing up a little bit. The Miz has the ability to control an audience on the mic and his in-ring ability is getting better. It could be worth a try. Let’s all admit, Christian is ten times the face as he is a heel. The WWE completely ruined his character after Edge’s unfortunate retirement. When he returns from injury, it should be to save the day and embrace the fans. The fans love this guy Vince, regardless of how you feel. As for McIntyre, the guy got a really good pop when he first returned to Smackdown a few weeks ago. Why? I’m not entirely sure, considering the guy is definitely still a heel. But it does show that the fans will cheer for this guy. In a time where new faces are necessary, he could be your guy.

The Death of Gimmick PPV’s: Raise your hand if you actually like ‘Hell in a Cell’, ‘Money in the Bank’ and ‘TLC’ PPV’s? Don’t get me wrong, I love all of those matches. But I absolutely hate the WWE for turning those great matches into gimmick PPV’s. What is special about a Hell in a Cell match if there are going to be three of them on the same night? All it does is make the match itself boring. The Hell in a Cell matches were beloved because they played such huge roles in major rivalries. Undertaker vs. Mankind anyone? How about Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels?  It added intensity to a rivalry that you truly felt couldn’t be duplicated. But now it’s just become standard to any rivalry that is taking place during that time of the year. Money in the Bank matches were always something to look forward to when Wrestlemania rolled around. And that my friends, is exactly how it should be. I mean seriously, the MITB match wasn’t even the Main Event at this year’s MITB PPV. Can I get a “DAAAAAAAAAAMN?” The only Gimmick PPV that I’ve ever supported is King of the Ring. If you must have one Vince, let it be that.

Kill the Brands/Unify the Belts: This will never happen but I do feel like it could be an appropriate turn for the WWE. Who here actually makes it a priority to watch Friday Night Smackdown? Me neither.  With the results already out on Wednesday’s and the lack of attention grabbing Superstars on that brand, I think it’s time to pull the plug. Give it a respectful farewell before it turns into the next WWECW. Instead of two separate shows, allow Monday Night Raw a three hour time slot so you still have time to fit in a reasonable amount of talent. A PPV full of belt unification matches could be a sight to see. I’d be all for seeing Bragging Rights this year if it meant that we’d see U.S. Champion vs. Intercontinental Champion to unify the belts leading up to the World Heavyweight Champion vs. WWE Champion to unify those belts. I think that would add more importance to what actually takes place on Raw.

Undertaker’s Retirement: 19-1 or 20-0, it doesn’t really matter as long as this is the year The Undertaker rests in peace. I have much love for Mark Calaway and all that he’s give to us fans since his WWE debut as “Kane the Undertaker”. His theatrics over the years have truly been second to none. But there comes a time in every Wrestler’s life (Are you listening Hogan?) when he must put away the gear and ride off into the sunset. That time came around about two years ago for our beloved Taker. I respect what he did in the ring with Triple H last year…but it’s time to call it. The man is destined for the Hall of Fame and eternal gratitude from all of us WWE fans, which is exactly why I’d like to see him leave while he can still get to the bathroom on his own. The fans shouldn’t have to sit through another Wrestlemania match and Mark shouldn’t have to put more damage on his body. Fire up the old American Bad-Ass Motorcycle and ride off into the sun Mark. You deserve it.

Alright folks, these are simply a few of my thoughts on things I think should take place this year. Agree or disagree? Let me know in the comment section!
