Backstage Notes From Royal Rumble 2022: Men's Rumble Points Reportedly Changed "20 Times" Mid-Match

Here are some notes from backstage at the Royal Rumble, courtesy of PWInsider.

  • WWE tried to keep Drew McIntyre's return to WWE a secret, even having him arrive to the venue very late. Because the stadium was so massive, many within the company didn't even know McIntyre was there until they saw him in the Gorilla position.
  • Kofi Kingston's elimination last night was not scripted (as previously reported) as he was meant to keep his feet off the ground and remain in the Royal Rumble. However, cameras caught both his feet touch the mat, which the referees also saw, and Kingston was announced as eliminated.
  • The report also states that Vince McMahon was very involved hands-on with the Men's Royal Rumble and was modifying everything from who would be first in the match, to the finish and everything in between. The match reportedly changed "20 times" during the day and some points were even being changed while the Rumble was already underway.
  • Xavier Woods, Kurt Angle and the Undertaker were all backstage. Angle filmed content for the WWE Network and The Undertaker was there to support  Michelle McCool.
