WWE has reportedly made a huge internal decision that will see them add independent wrestling added to the WWE Network, according to Wrestling Observer Radio.
Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) which is based in the United Kingdom will be one of those promotions and a number of other promotions are currently in talks with WWE to add their content. The deal which hasn't been fully revealed will likely see ICW available "On Demand" rather than on live stream.Â
WWE has been pondering the idea of adding independent content for a while, issuing fan surveys which not surprisingly surged in favor of adding content beyond that of WWE. Vince McMahon apparently went back and forth on this decision but ultimately he approved the idea to add independent wrestling recently.Â
WWE recently crowned a new UK Champion and they also have plans to launch a UK-produced television show.
In a further update, Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that the WWE UK champion may travel to ICW and defend the title there along with maybe OTT and Progress as well, at least until WWE get their own show up and running in the UK.
The ICW deal is said to be for 2-3 years and that the content will not be toned down.
