WWE has officially announced the release of Cody Rhodes in a brief statement on their website, which reads:
"WWE has come to terms on the release of Cody Rhodes as of today, May 22, 2016. WWE wishes Rhodes the best in all his future endeavors."Â
Cody requested his release from the company after posting the following brief statement on his personal twitter account on Saturday:
"(1/2) The past ten years have been quite the trek, but as of earlier today I have asked for my release from @WWE
(2/2) I’ll speak further on the matter shortly. Thank you to all the pro-wrestling/sports entertainment fans worldwide. Thank you"
Rhodes has been with WWE since 2006 and has accomplished the WWE Intercontinental Championship (2 times), WWE Tag Team Championship (3 times) – with Drew McIntyre (1) and Goldust (2) and the World Tag Team Championship (3 times) – with Hardcore Holly (1) and Ted DiBiase, Jr. (2).
