WWE Singapore, July 2nd 2015

WWE came back to Singapore after 7 years! I was worried that WWE was just “stopping by” before The Beast in the East to cater to the Southeast Asian market, and would thus provide a bad show. Man was I wrong!

Neville def Kofi Kingston (w/ The New Day)

THE CROWD WAS HOT. Great opening match that went back and forth. Neville got a huge pop and I’ve never heard anyone get booed so loudly than The New Day. Both men hit their signature moves and spots. The New Day got involved behind the referee’s back which led to a “referee kayu” (slang for Referee Stupid) chant. The poor ref looked clueless as to what we were chanting! Neville eventually got the win after diving on all three members of New Day and hitting Red Arrow on Kingston.

Lucha Dragons def Los Matadores (w/ El Torito)

Matadores came out to a nice reaction. Dragons came out to an even louder reaction. Nice match with Torito accidentally cross-bodying Diego which led to the him tossing Torito. Torito eventually supported the Dragons. The crowd turned olé chants to “boleh” and “tak boleh”, which was a slang for can and cannot, respectively. Torito got a Beef Rendang (beef stew) chant. Dragons with the SDS-Senton combo for the win.

Finn Balor def King Barrett

Barrett cut a promo before the match claiming he was the king of Singapore and drew major heat. Balor got a nice NXT chant, but the highlight was Barrett getting a “Princess Barrett” chant. Great match with Barrett dominating. Balor with a Coup De Grace for the win.

Dolph Ziggler def Kane in a Singapore Street Fight

Fans had a choice between a singles match and a “Singapore” Street fight. Kane got a nice ovation and Ziggler was huge over. Kane had a Hawaii chant. Kendo sticks and chairs were used. Kane kicked out of a zigzag. Ziggler tossed into the steps, Kane went through the base step he set up, Ziggler kicked out of a chokeslam through the table. Kane crashed through a table, Ziggler with the zigzag for the win.

Divas Championship Match

Nikki Bella def Tamina

First they advertised Paige vs Naomi vs Nikki, then they pulled Paige out. Then Naomi magically became Tamina. Worst match of the night (fan service). Tamina is severely underrated and had some nice moments. Nikki botched a few moves. Victory came when Nikki rolled Tamina up after Tamina was arguing over a count.

Cesaro def Big E

Crowd still hated New Day and loved Cesaro. Big E had his own Big, E sucks chant. Cesaro hit three rolling Germans which led to a suplex city chant. Cesaro loved the crowd and we loved him back. Referee Kayu chants broke out again. Cesaro got a New Day-esque “Ce-saro” chant. Xavier tried to use a chair and got New Day ejected, leading to Cesaro hitting 8 Rotations on the swing and victory by sharpshooter.

John Cena def Kevin Owens

Crowd was split 50-50 for this one. Cena really blew the roof off. Crowd was hot for this match. Pretty nice back and forth with Cena hitting his five moves, Owens countering the Knuckle Shuffle into his own five moves. Owens low blowed Cena for the DQ finish, with Owens trying to nail Cena with the NXT title, only for Cena to hit the AA. Guess they wanted both sides of the crowd to be happy?

Cena closed the show and said Singapore was heard loud and clear tonight. Overall a good show. Definitely exceeded expectations and loved every moment of it. Superstars gave it their all and so did the fans!
