On July 7th, 1996, fans of World Championship Wrestling were shocked when Hulk Hogan joined The Outsiders: Scott Hall & Kevin Nash at WCW's Bash at the Beach to form quite possibly the most influential and controversial faction in the history of professional wrestling, the New World Order (nWo).
Following the formation of the New World Order, WCW rose to new heights in popularity, which really ignited the legendary Monday Night War between WCW and the World Wrestling Federation. Wrestling fans in the late 1990's witnessed what many still consider to be wrestling's hottest period of time. WCW featured stars such as the nWo, as well as Bill Goldberg, Sting, Ric Flair & The Four Horsemen, "Diamond" Dallas Page, Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, Randy Savage, and many other household names. WWF featured new Superstars such as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Kane, and of course, the WWF's counterpart to the nWo, the equally legendary and controversial faction known as D-Generation X.
While the nWo would eventually run its course, its influence on wrestling has not been forgotten, and many longtime fans who were there to witness it look back at that period of time with fond memories. The nWo redefined what it meant to be a "cool bad guy" and to this day they still have a loyal cult following of fans long after the nWo and WCW have been put to rest.
