In the 1990s, during one of the hottest times in pro wrestling history, there were three major wrestling promotions in the United States: Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), known back then as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), Ted Turner and Eric Bischoff's World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and Paul Heyman's Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW).
Both WCW and ECW went out of business in 2001 and were both eventually purchased by Vince McMahon and WWE.
In WCW, Ted Turner wanted to be involved with the wrestling business, but he knew that he didn't have the mind to run a wrestling company. Enter Eric Bischoff. Eric Bischoff went to war with WWE on Monday nights (WWE Raw vs. WCW Nitro) and also put together one of the greatest storylines in wrestling history, the New World Order (nWo) invasion/hostile take-over of WCW. Bischoff was also known for using any tactics necessary to get ratings for WCW. He signed all of WWE's biggest Superstars (Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, and many others), and would even reveal the results of pre-taped WWE programs on WCW programming.
Paul Heyman is regarded as one of the most brilliant minds in wrestling history. His ECW promotion was innovative and groundbreaking, and many of Heyman's ideas were later used (or maybe stolen) by both WCW and WWE. ECW introduced the high-flying Luchadores out of Mexico. ECW gave smaller yet very skilled wrestlers such as Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, and Chris Jericho the opportunity to compete and make a name for themselves in the United States in a major wrestling promotion. ECW had a rabid cult following. ECW led the Hardcore Revolution that forever changed the face of pro wrestling.
Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman both went on to work for WWE. Currently, Eric Bischoff is a top executive in Total Nonstop Action Impact Wrestling, whereas Paul Heyman has chosen to mostly stay away from the pro wrestling business.
But in their heyday, on their best day, which one was better? Who has a greater legacy in the pro wrestling business? Eric Bischoff or Paul Heyman?
ERIC BISCHOFF OR PAUL HEYMAN? LET THIS DEBATE BEGIN!
