Dear Blazers,Ā
I had planned for my next column to be about current WWE Superstar and one of my personal favorites Dolph Ziggler. But unfortunately, all I can seem to think about at the moment is the drama surrounding WWE Superstar The Miz. For whatever reason, this particular issue has my blood boiling so I wanted to take some time to relay my thoughts to you and any illiterate WWE Creative jackwagon that may somehow stumble upon this. The recent headlines that continue to pour out about WWE Superstar Mike Mizanin have been incredibly ridiculous. There has been talk about The Miz being to blame for the poor sells of Survivor Series, then you had stories of Triple H making a fool out of him backstage after the incident with R-Truth in front of several people and now there has been talk about the WWE losing interest in The Miz altogether. Now there has to be a certain level of accountability on Mikeās part but in the long runā¦this is the fault of the WWE and Iām going to tell you why.Ā
As I sit here ruining the workout I did last night with a buttered blueberry bagel and an oversized bottle of orange juice, I canāt help but wonder what it must be like to be Mike Mizanin. A year ago today, The Miz was enjoying his first ever WWE Championship reign and gearing up for a title defense in the main event at Wrestlemania against the WWEās poster boy. Everything that he had ever hoped for was coming true. You see, The Miz catches a lot of crap because of the way he came into the business. People still see him as the knucklehead reality star who did Wrestling Promos on MTVās Real Life World (Thanks for catching the typo Katie Lynn) and lost in the WWEās $1,000,000 Tough Enough. The Miz was a cocky, arrogant and self-righteous pretty boy when he came into the WWE with nothing more to his credentials than purely making it to the show. But those very things that people dislike him for, I praise him for. Mike Mizanin should be an inspiration to all of us.Ā
The WWE has become a really taboo source of entertainment over the last decade. There are quite a few WWE fans out there who would never even tell their closest friends that they actually still watch it. But Mizanin stood not only in front of his other Cast Mates but the entire viewing world and claimed his love for the industry. He turned that love for the industry into a drive to become a WWE Superstar. And you know what? He made it. He chased after those dreams, worked extremely hard and now here he stands as one of the most recognizable WWE Superstars wrestling currently. Last year he stood in the middle of the ring at Wrestlemania and he held the belt in the air proudly as the reigning WWE Championā¦the greatest moment of his life. Fast forward until the present dayā¦and youāll find a man whose spirit was broken by the very industry he loved.Ā
The Miz went from being the top heel on Monday Nightās to another mid-card joke of a heel that is put in five minute matches and booked to lose for fan enjoyment. Within mere months, The Miz went from being a WWE Champion to a guy cutting promos for Subway in the thirty seconds he was given TV Time. In ONE day after his WWE Championship defense at Wrestlemania, he was put on the back burner and forced to play second fiddle. Why did all of this happen? Easy answer readers, because his name wasnāt John Cena or Dwayne āThe Rockā Johnson. The WWE became so involved in promoting a match one year away, that they stripped the Miz of every single ounce of momentum and respect he had earned. Within a month the WWE Championship was already in the hands of the WWEās poster boy and The Miz would once again be buried underneath the attention being given to a former WWE Superstar. Within two months The Miz was already drifting out of the Championship race and becoming the butt of jokes by mid-card talent. By the time three months had passedā¦The Miz was nothing more than a glorified Mid-Carder struggling to find just a few moments of air time so he could get the fans attention. The WWE took everything away from him in less than a year.Ā
The Mizās tenure in the WWE over the past two years is much like when you were a kid and your parents brought home that brand new bicycle. Except after your parents let you ride the bike a few times, they took the wheels off and put them away. Sureā¦you still have a bike but who the hell wants to ride a bike without wheels after theyāve already experienced the excitement of riding said bike all over the neighborhood? Iām not saying that The Miz shouldnāt be grateful for the opportunity heās been given to be a WWE Superstar. But how could you possibly expect the man to contain that same fire, passion and love for what heās doing when you built him up only to tear him down? The Miz worked hard day in and day out to get to where he was this time last year. He gave everything that he had to the business only for them to turn a cold shoulder and look the other way. Because once again WWE Creative became so wrapped up in pushing their already over the moon guys like John Cena and Randy Orton that everybody else was forced to take a seat in the back (Aside from the notable CM Punk). Please donāt think that Iām trying to use this column as a platform to throw claims like that at Cena or Orton because Iām not. But facts are facts and the fact of the matter isā¦Superstars like The Miz, Christian and so forth arenāt considered a high priority when the WWE is slobbering over Cena and Orton.Ā
You can blame the Miz for the incident that took place with R-Truth this past Monday. I wonāt even bother trying to stop you because I agree he shouldāve taken some of the impact on that move to ensure Truthās healthy landing. But HHHās rumored reaction to the incident was both uncalled for and out of line. The Miz does not have a history of injuring other superstars that he is involved in matches with. To my knowledge, this is actually a first time thing. And Iām more than certain that Mike feels absolutely awful about how it all played out. His first big mistake in the business shouldnāt get him ridiculed in front of all of his peers. If Triple H wanted to say something to him it shouldāve been between those two (and possibly Killings) and behind closed doors. But am I surprised to hear that the WWE is once again treating him with a lack of respect? Not at all.Ā
I know what it is like to work extremely hard for something you love only to have other people try to hold you back. And there are plenty of Superstars in the WWE that have fallen victim to the same thing that The Miz has been dealing with. Sheamus went through it very recently with the stupid King Sheamus gimmick that Creative came up with. And the honest truth is, the WWE is completely at fault when things like this happen. As their employer the WWE should be trying to elevate these guys to a greater statusā¦not tearing them down so more attention can be given to the already established. Iām once again disappointed in WWE Creative and I feel for The Miz. I hope that this doesnāt ruin his passion for the business and that he can find that fire to continue competing and fighting his way back to the top. His progress has been great to see over the past few years. Heās turned into one of the best mic-workers in the business and while he still isnāt the best Wrestler, he is getting much better due to the hard work he puts in.
I respect the man immensely and while that may not be a popular opinion, I donāt really care. Something has got to change with Creative or this will continue to happen to men and women that deserve much more. As I stated in my column two weeks ago about how the Universe needs to inflict and demand change, it might be left to us. A revolution needs to be brought upon the WWE if we ever want the product and treatment of the superstars to get better. Weāre all going to have to unite (as corny as that sounds) as a fanbase and force our hand. If not, the WWE we once loved will be completely erased.Ā
